Abstract

Berberis julianae C.K. Schneid (Berberidaceae) is a valuable medicinal plant. Stems and roots of the plant contain many alkaloids, of which berberin is the main one. This species is recorded with a natural distribution in Sa Pa town, Lao Cai province, has been heavily exploited leading to serious threats in the wild, was included in the Red Book of Vietnam, 2007 in EN level. In order to build the database for the conservation and rational use of Hoang Lien Gai species in Vietnam, this article adds some biological and ecological characteristics of Hoang Lien Gai species. The research results showed that Hoang Lien Thorn is a shrub with good resistance to pests and diseases, good heat tolerance; determine the density of Hoang Lien Thorn species is 365 - 380 individuals/ha, growing well in the wild at an altitude of 1,400 - 1,700m with very wide ecological limits (temperature, humidity, light, ...).
