Abstract

The study was conducted on the ovarian development of the Indian Major carp (Labeo rohita Hamilton, 1822) between December 2022 and August 2023, employing cytological analysis and organizational characteristics for assessment. The research uncovered that the ovaries of Indian Major carp progress through six distinct developmental periods, with the egg cells evolving across four stages. The study observed a consistent increase in oocyte diameter through the developmental phases: starting from 20 to 100μm during the nuclear synthesis stage, advancing to 140 to 440μm through cytoplasmic growth, increasing to 450 to 830μm during nutritional growth, and culminating at 850 to 980μm throughout the egg maturation period. Additionally, it pinpointed specific periods for the stepwise rearing of Indian Major carp, beginning with cumulative rearing from the start of January to the end of February, transitioning to metabolic rearing from early March to April 15, and initiating spawning stimulation from April 15 onwards. These insights lay a robust scientific groundwork for refining the artificial reproduction techniques of the Indian Major carp, tailored to local environmental conditions, with the aim of boosting the productivity of fish seed production.
