Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate the effects of supplementing Rhodopseudomonas julia (R. julia) in drinking water on the growth performance, feed conversion efficiency, carcass yield, and meat quality of chickens. The experiment utilized a completely randomized design with three treatments, each replicated five times, involving a total of 450 Lai Choi chickens at 28 days of age. The R. julia was added to the drinking water at concentrations of 0, 0.5, and 1.0 ml/l of drinking water. The observed parameters included body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio (FCR), carcass yield, and meat quality traits. The results indicated that supplementation with R. julia had no significant effect on growth rate, carcass yield, or meat quality. However, it significantly improved feed conversion efficiency, as demonstrated by a markedly lower FCR compared to the control group. These findings suggest that R. julia is a promising photosynthetic bacterial species with potential applications in poultry production, helping to reduce antibiotic use and enhance overall production efficiency.
