Abstract

This study aims to analyze cattle farming size, herd structure, raising methods, productivity, selling situation of beef cattle and calf, and constraints of crossbred cattle farmers in the plains of Quang Ngai province. A survey was conducted with 160 cattle farmers in 4 communes in 4 plain districts of Quang Ngai province. The results showed that small-scale crossbred cattle production was still popular with 93.8% of households having fewer production scales than 10 cattles. The average household's scale of cattle production in 2020 was 5.2 heads. Cows were mainly Brahman crossbred (60.9%) of the total cows of household. The average calving interval of cows was 388,6 days. Beef cattles were mainly BBB (64.2%) and Charolais (16.2%) of the total number of beef cattle. The average live weight of beef cattle for sale was 420 kg at an average old of beef cattle was 18.4 months. The beef cattle and calves are mainly consumed in the province through local traders and slaughterhouses. Lack of market information, lack of skill to determine selling price, limited husbandry techniques, cattle feed shortage in the rainy season, and disease in cattle are common constraints of cattle farmers in the plains of Quang Ngai province.
