Abstract

The study was conducted to determine some pathological characteristics of dogs with leukopenia caused by Ehrlichia canis (E. canis). The determination of pathological changes caused by E. canis in dogs was carried out by a cross-sectional study on 305 dogs. The results showed that the infection rate of E. canis was 37,70% of the total 305 dogs brought for examination and treatment at Okada - Pet Veterinary Center and Tuan Ngoc Veterinary Clinic. Dogs with E. canis have common clinical signs such as pale mucous (60%); parasitic mites, fever, and paralysis of hind legs (58.26%); stop eating (55.65%); weakness in hind legs, thin body, hair loss around eyes (53.04%); nasal hemorrhage, diarrhea (49.57%); cough, spit, anorexia (48.7%); eye discharges, cloudy eyes (47.83%); vomiting (45.22%), belly skin hemorrhage (44.35%). E. canis was found in monocytes at hematology at 80%, in neutrophils (34.29%), and at the same time in monocytes and neutrophils (20%). Inflammatory cell infiltration was observed around the vessel wall in organs: lungs, liver, spleen of infected dogs.
