Abstract

This study aimed to identify the causal agent of leaf spot disease on Ochna integerrima in Hue City and to evaluate the antifungal efficacy of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) under in vitro conditions. On PDA medium, fungal colonies initially appeared white to cream and cottony, then gradually turned pink to light violet after 3–5 days. The conidia were typically spindle-shaped and curved, with pointed apices and foot-shaped bases, containing 3–4 septa. Molecular identification using ITS1–ITS4 primers confirmed the pathogen as Fusarium fujikuroi. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of F. fujikuroi causing leaf spot disease on O. integerrima in Vietnam. To explore potential control measures, we assessed the antifungal activity of AgNPs at different concentrations (1%, 2%, 4%, 5%, 8%, and 10%) under in-vitro conditions. The results showed that 10% AgNPs completely inhibited fungal growth (100%), while 8% AgNPs achieved 66.25% inhibition. These findings suggest that AgNPs are effective in suppressing the growth of F. fujikuroi and may serve as an eco-friendly alternative for managing leaf spot disease in crops.
