Abstract

This study aims to determine the prevalence of coccidiosis and associated clinical symptoms in ducks from Thua Thien Hue province. From June to September 2022, 620 fecal samples collected from 124 households and farms were tested using Fulleborn's flotation technique. Ducks that were positive for coccidial oocysts and had typical symptoms of the disease were dissected to observe gross lesions. The coccidiosis prevalence of 58.87% was found in the households raising ducks in Thua Thien Hue. Significant associations between coccidian infection and age, rearing methods, and feeding practices were found using multivariate logistic regression analysis. The main clinical symptoms of disease in infected ducks were stunting and abnormal feces (diarrhea/waxy stool/bloody stools). Therefore, control of coccidiosis in ducks is essential not only to improve growth performance but also to eliminate the disease in other susceptible animals.
