Abstract

ABSTRACT

Thua Thien Hue is the province has the biggest area of saline and flooded paddy soils in the North Central of Vietnam, which is aroud 2.500 ha, in which distributed mainly in the districts of Quang Dien, Phu Vang and Phu Loc. The research was conducted sampling of saline and flooded paddy soils at 19 representative sites in 19 sites distributed widely in Quang Dien district, Thua Thien Hue province in January, May and September, 2016. The pHe, ECe, CEC, exchangeble cations and anions, total OC... of the soil saturation solution were determined to evaluate the chemical soil properties. In addition, the soil paticle composition of the soil samples was also determined to evaluate the physical properties of the soil. The results indicated that saline and flooded paddy soils had high content of sand but low in silt and clay, and most were classified as sandy loam and loamy sand soils. CEC, total content of OC and N were very low with 2.0-6.4 cmolc kg-1, 0.78-1.52 % và 0.08-0.16 %, respectively. pHe of the soils obtained from all observations was low, ranging from 4.4 to 6.1. ECe of soils in the high elevation areas was less than 1.0 dS m-1. In contrast, ECe in the low elevation areas was almost higher than 1.9 dS m-1. The result of the study also showed that the ECe of May was much higher than that in January and September.
